Bad Piano (Lofi Multisample Instruments for Ableton Live)

Bad Piano is a collection of 7 Multisample Instruments for Ableton Live.

Recorded at 96 Khz / 24 Bit, each instrument rack contains 20 variations (presets) plus a dedicated effects rack which also has 20 variations and a noise chain with 8 variations. So you can mix and match settings and go from lofi piano to vast soundscapes with ease.

When we moved to our new place, there was this old piano in the living room. The notes heavily detuned, the pedals didn’t do anything and some keys weren’t working at all. It sounded real bad. Naturally I wanted to turn it into an instrument.

I recorded each note separately, used digital tools to tune them and fill the gaps. A beautiful starting point for a lofi multisample instrument. I then sent the sounds through various hardware signal chains to create 7 different flavors of the piano and recorded them to 1/4“ tape. 

This lead to 7 unique piano instruments that basically work in any genre of music or soundtrack. But that is just the beginning. I started to treat the samples like the oscillators of a synth, dialed in settings, mapped the most important macros and added an effects chain to turn the piano sounds into entirely different sonic beasts. From lush to gnarly, from snappy to dreamy.

The result is Bad Piano. A collection of

readily playable Multisample Instrument Racks that start at vibey piano sounds and end in sonic clouds. I hope you enjoy them.
